Default Motor heat

Hello,
I have just bought a 2006 TXT series cart. It is lifted with 23" tires on it. 2005 T-105 batts. I plan on upgrading to 48v soon and getting some new batts then.
Yesterday PM I spent about 30 minutes driving slowly through some tall grass. When I got back to the house I was pulling the grass out from under the cart, I noticed that the motor was HOT! I dont own a pyrometer but you couldn't hold your hand on it. I would estimate around 140-150 deg. I could also feel some heat coming off the controller through the cover. Is this normal or is there a problem there I should investigate? I knew that some heat would be generated during operation I guess I just didn't figure it would be this much.
Thanks

Lightbulb Re: Motor heat

I would check all the cable connections and make sure they are all good and tight! Loose connections will do more harm than you think. Sparks melt downs all kinds of nasty stuff can happen. Over heating the motor and controller.

Thanks for the reply. They all are clean but I will check for tightness.

I just bought a cart almost identical to yours! I've got 20" tires and a lift on the way! I think they are a great starting point for a cart to upgrade. I also want to go up to 48v soon, but I'm gonna save up to buy everything at one time. I rode it about 5 miles the other day trying to see how my old batteries were performing. I still had about 75% capacity. I felt the cables and controller through the cover for heat, and they were all cool to the touch. I didn't check the motor, but I will the next time I go for a long ride. Hope you can find what's making yours get hot.

I think going through the tall grass was putting more load on the cart than I realized. I'm gonna check all my connections then take a longer light load drive like you are describing and see if its still getting hot.

Question Re: Motor heat

PDS carts in general don't like slow riding. They like to go wide open. W/O is the best for the motor and controller it see's less amp's when w/o.

That's true Andy, but he said it was a series cart in the first post.
