Default Rear end trouble.........

Got a problem with the rear end. A couple of weeks ago the rear end started making a really bad noise. Sounded like a shelled bearing to me. I pulled the cover and sure enough there was a significant amount of metal in the oil and the oil was black even though the cart had only been driven about 10 miles since I changed the oil. Problem is, I could not find anything wrong iwith any of the bearings...that is until I spun the rear bearing on the input shaft with compressed air. It howled so I thought I had found it. Got all new bearings from Scotty and got them installed and fresh fluid in it. Ran it today for the first time and it sounds the same as it did before and there is was quite a bit of metal in the pan and the oil is really dark even though I only went about 3/4 mile. I had Cheryl work the throttle for me with the pan off and I can't see anything wrong but it sounds terrible and it appears that every once in a while I can see very fine metal particles raining down from the upper gears, but the gears all look fine. I am totally lost and need to leave Thursday night for the race in Springfield.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm going to call around and see if I can find another rear end tomorrow but it will have to be modifed to work with the lowering suff and I have no idea if I can even find one much less have it ready to go in 2 days.

Terry' try pulling both axles and have her run it again.... If you find another rear end just swap the gears. Keep your new input shaft and bearings.

I suggest taking the motor out and pulling input shaft out and taking a look see. I had to replace one in my life. It was a 1989 E-Z-GO. Just a thought.

IT has a new input shaft and every bearing in it is new.

Any word this am?

Drop those gears out of there. IF you have metal shavings, you should be able to see what they are coming off of, no?

Honestly, I'm waithng on the dealer to open so I can call them. Don't want to imoblilize the cart just yet. If they can look at it today I'll run it over there and see what they think. I have looked until my eyes are about to pop out and I can see nothing wrong other than it sounds like a box of rocks.

The cart community is amazing. Just got back from JD Sharp's house with a PDS cart in my trailer. I'm going to pull the rear end out of this cart, get Bob to make the mods that are required for it to work with my lowered suspension stuff tonite and I'll get it painted and in the cart by tomorrow evening...I hope!!!

Thank you SO much JD!!!

And now the thrash begins.

The rear end from John's cart has been removed, cleaned, modifed to work with my lowering stuff and is sitting in my shop with shiny black paint drying on it as we speak...er...type...oh, you know.

I'll get everything back together in the morning and load up for Springfield.

John Sharp, you are a good man. Thank you So much for all your help.
