Default Regen "assist" braking, good or bad?

I'm looking to adjust some of the settings on my programmable alltrax controller and wondered if the braking assist is good or bad for parts around the cart. It's a 99 ezgo DCS with stock motor and alltrax 300dcx controller. It's got a 6" lift with 20" tires. I use my cart mostly for getting around my hunting club, nothing extreme. A few short runs on hills and lightly rough terrain.

Will the braking assist hurt or help the motor or controller?? Since the controller is programmable, I can turn down the assist. I like it for helping control speed downhill, but not at the cost of a new controller or motor..

Thanks
