Default Green vs. Red Spring Kit

Hello,

I need to give my cart a large amount of throttle before it jumps off the line. I want to tame this a bit, would moving over the green spring for the TC be a better option or is there any other options you know of that could help.

If you're wanting to lower engagement rpm, you need a spring that has less tension, or a weaker spring in the primary clutch.

In the secondary clutch, a stronger spring will typically delay upshift, keeping you in a lower gear ratio longer. Good for climbing hills. Bad for acceleration. Secondary clutch doesn't control engagement.

I'm not familiar with the go kart type torque converter setups, not sure which spring color is what. If that's a comet series 30 you might be able to find a chart on the internet that deals with springs and spring rates etc.

Right the spring tension at rest keeps the clutch open until it spins fast enough to start shifting/engaging. So spring pressure at rest: more makes higher engagement. Also less weight would of course make it rev more before engaging. Slo is right, engagement and high rpm shift is in the primary on the engine, how it shifts and backshift is the secondary. How much the rpm drops when you ease back on the gas is exactly what the secondary does mostly. Of course some clutches are more adjustable than others or have more springs/weights available. A sled clutch for example can have a longer spring that has more tension at rest and higher engagement, yet at speed it runs the same as the shorter spring because compressed spring rate is similar. Some clutches you can only get stronger or weaker springs. Generally if you have a stock lawn engine you want to get it to run 3000-3600 at full throttle to get full power, and you set the secondary looser so it shifts because the lawn engine has a lot of torque below 3600. You may have to adjust to get the engagement you want. Most stock lawn engines are not that picky what exact rpm you run it at anyway.
