Default New guy needs help

Hello new to the forum,

I just got a gas G16 that is stock, guy told me he put a new clutch in it. I read there are some must do mods like:

Changed Oil to Mobil 1
Took Clutch apart - Cleaned & Torque Spring Installed w/Spacer
Cleaned & Re-Jet Carb (BIG DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE)
Tight 10mm nut ALMOST (not all) to complete tension with Speed Spring Installed.
Re-aligned steering.

Would someone explain these or have a link to a thread that does. I plan on lifting the cart and putting bigger wheels with AT tires. Right now it seems to run good but won't climb any kind of hill. I am hoping it is the governor. Thanks

Is the "primary clutch" one on motor, closing all the way? (belt go clear to the top of the pulley, when reving it up in neutral)? And don't hold it at top RPM for more than a second or two. Take the cover off the front clutch, and look for flat spots on the 3 rollers, (you will see what I'm talking about when you get in there).

Any time you increase wheel diameter you gain top end speed but will lose low end torque. I laugh at these pickup trucks with the big tires. They think big high tires and don't do anything with the axle gear ratio. All noise and no off the line torque. Its all about gear ratio and Horse power. I would keep the same size tires and just put in the lift kit. It sounds like your not getting enough rpms out of the engine. Tighten up all the way on the gov spring thats on the throttle linkage. I gained 8 more mph out of mine with stock engine. Keep in mind that you only have rear mechanical brakes. If you plan to be a speed junkie, I would invest in the front disc brake mod.

I not looking for speed, I want low end torque. I have a lot on hills on my property. When I try to climb a hill is just stops, doesn't sound like the belt is slipping. It does make a ugly sound when you first take off.

Thanks, haven't had time yet to look at it but I will check it out and post back. Looks like the guy greased the heck out of it, there is grease slung all over the place.

The bushing is known to fail on the sliding-sheave on the Primary-Clutch.Its' a cheap fix, that will cause the clutch to rattle and bind when worn enough. The bushing and grease seal sell for about $10.How is the belt?If its' worn and stretched, you'll lose quite a bit.My Wifes'G16 has 21" tires,no govenor,No Torque-Spring either(I've installed a few of them and not real impressed by them),its' a beast for power, climbs over almost anything.Maybe look into a tune-up as well.Hope this helps.

The clutches are really important, you also need a good belt as old worn ones will make it bog. New is 1 3/16 wide, 1" is junk and close to 1" is junk on a lifted cart. First make sure the clutches are clean and lubed and working properly, no bad rollers or anything. Then make sure the engine can't pull into the trans on takeoff, that will make it bog too (mean bog at dead stop takeoff up a hill). The engine should respond and rev up on a steep hill. Don't expect a 9hp lifted cart to go up things a normal person can't run right up, but they can usually do more than they should. You can try a cut sheave for more torque at low speeds like for towing, they work nice and don't affect higher speeds. That is a cut secondary sheave. You can invest a lot of time installing a $300 15hp clone engine in there and have around twice the power, but its a project and you need a $50 adapter.

What everyone has said, but over greasing is the problem! Grease all over the belt and clutches!
