Default New guy - Did I do something stupid....

Hello All -
Got my first cart 2 weeks ago and already lifted it and wheels and tires. Had my 4-wheeler for 8 years never touched, it. 1 week with this thing and I'm 1200.00 in the hole already! Its a 2003 G22 (Don't know if thats good or Bad, haven't figured out the models yet)

Anyway - There is what looks like a balancer off the Engine that the drive belt sits next too. This has a grease fitting in the center of it. The people I bought the cart from said it was a good thing as most don't. Well I did what all smart people do, I greased it before I asked or read anything about it. Now, it seems to sling grease, my belt is grease, both contact points for the belt are greased and of course now the cart generally sits still why the motor runs awsome!!!

What did I do, is it a problem and besides the obvious of taking the belt off and cleaning everything, what else do I need to do to fix this!?!

Do you mean the secondary clutch? That would be where the big drive belt from the engine goes to. Both those clutches the drive belt runs on have a fitting and yes you only put 1-2 pumps in them every couple months of use at most. Use some alcohol or acetone and clean everything off you should be good. Its just a bushing inside them, so they don't hold much grease. Those clutches are the CVT, the transmission of the cart. Cart will run a lot nicer if they are in good working order. There also might be grease inside the cover of the primary on the engine should clean that out. While you are there check the rollers or whatever inside that clutch for wear. I think those have rollers and they get flat spots on them when shot, but last a long time.

Thanks for the response. IT is the gold bell housing that is in the picture that put the grease in. I probably put 10 pumps in it but my gun was at the end of the can so don't know how much actually went in.

So does this cover come off? It looked like one assembly to me but haven't studied it.

I didn't grease anything else other than the Jakes spindles.

I used a video from here to help with the lift and read up on adjusting the governor and can't believe I greased something I didn't know the proper proceedures, so now I have to pay the piper!!

I used the 6" Jakes spindle lift. Fender flares should be here this week as well as 5 bay mirror and foot pedal horn. Next really needs to be a flip seat cause I DON'T golf

Looks very nice!! Just take off that gold (clutch can), 3 screws and clean the grease out, then use brake cleaner to clean it the rest of the way. Then examine the 3 rollers for flat spots, and replace them if they are flat.

I just finished a 22 a couple months ago. That build is in The G8 Club, starting on page 444. I really liked that 22, Very solid and tight!

Thanks very much - I will clean it out and fix my mess!!

I need to do some sort of light kit too. WAnting to do somthing like what you have then I saw some LED light bars so I'm still thinking.

I have another couple questions - Why is the drive belt serptine, but the shafts are smooth? And finally, is there a good place to find a brief description of the models G1- whatever the latest is and what differences are?

Scrub the belt with a wire brush and some acetone, then some soap and water and rinse it with clear water to remove any grease on it.
Use gloves when working with the acetone.

Holey Crap! 10 shots of grease? They usually only take one! Everything can be fixed...or cleaned in this situation, you'll be fine.
