Batteries sulfating on charge?? Time for new charger?
2013 Precendent. Charger has been working fine until the last few days.
First problem was noted when the charger did not shut off over night and most batteries in the pack were hot and sulfating. I disconnected the battery pack for a hour plus for OBC reset. Next two charge cycles seemed good. Then last night after a few hours of charging, but not perhaps overcharging by time it appeared the batteries were sulfating but not physically hot yet. So I disconnected last nights charge cycle. Based on the above what would be recommended? I am fine with buying a new charger if that is the best route. DPI or Lester???? Is my OBC bypass option the white to blue wire and then black wire negative post? The black wire is what I am not sure of 100% sure of yet by way of the exact way to locate which wire is being identified for this part of the process. Thx for the comments! |

You didn't mention the age of your batteries. When my charger did that I checked the batteries individually, I found I had a bad one. When I replaced the batteries all was well.

Batteries all test the same voltage when fully charged and are two years old.

On a previous post you mentioned installing your own 1 gauge cables, what method did You use to get the cable through the OBC?

Re: Batteries sulfating on charge?? Time for new charger?
Yep bubling and smelling up the garage with an acid smell.
Now prior to the OBC reset all were bubbling and hot with no charger shut off happening. After I reset the obc. Two charge cycles were fine. The last one yesterday garage smelled again and a coupe of batteries were bubbling. No real heat though. If this is fine then good, but it seems a little extreme to me based on my experience with 100's of boat batteries and chargers through the years. |

Make sure your batteries have enough water in them and let your charger go until it times out on its own, it might take 10-12 hours. One last thing. When they are bubbling is the amp meter down to between 2-5 amps.

Thx guys. Yes. Last bubbling noted was at 5 amps. All batteries have 1/4 inch of water above plates.
