Default Buy new or restore batteries for 48 volt cart

I bought a '99 Club Car DS that I am restoring. It has a 48 volt system.

The battery life on the cart seems short and after about 5 miles it won't make it up hills without shuddering significantly.

The batteries have an "I9" stamp on the negative post and measure 8.0-8.5 volts without load. I haven't tested loaded.

Will I have much luck reviving the batteries with a solution, or are they too old?

Any suggestions on the solution and method to revive them, if so?

Those batteries are from sept of 2009. I would say they are done. At 8 volts they are between 40% and 50% charged. Check water levels.

"Battery restoration fluids" don't work. Use that money towards replacing the worn out batteries.

motormaker, that's the same year as my batteries and about the same state of charge. I've been told by some in the forum I'm darn lucky they have lasted as long as they have. I plan on getting new batteries as soon as as the tax return shows up.
