Angry rear axle broke off.

Hello everyone, I have owned my 2001 club car for only two weeks and now it doesn't have a rear axle. The cart was converted to a 48volt system, lifted with 26 inch tires and supposedly a motor upgrade. We bought the cart for hunting and just riding around the farm. While riding with my small son, it performed great, but if my wife and other kids rode with us, there was a slight burning smell. Last night while my wife was riding, it started to jerk so she parked right away. We checked all the connections, terminals and wires and the only thing that was hot to the touch was the motor. Today my daughter drove it next door (200yrds) and the rear locked up, and slid to a stop; breaking the axel free of the lee springs. Any help would be great.

I would think that your motor locked up and not your rear end.

that is what I was thinking from reading similar posts. Is there a way to check the motor now that it isn't attached to the cart. I think I read something about connecting a battery charger to the motor to see if it would turn, but I can't find the post, and don't know what to connect and where

Take the motor off of the differential and see if you can turn the input shaft on the differential by hand easily. The same can be said for the motor. See which one of them will not rotate.

26" tires.......make sure you have at least a 500 amp controller......and a high torque motor for your application. Golfcartking has an unreal price on "the beast" motor........

any ideas why this may have happened in the first place. I'm not sure what kind of motor upgrade the guy was supposed to have done, but could have been something he did or didn't do?

A few photos, Serial number, type of controller, cable size, and F/R info will help. Slow riding and hills with large tires require certain upgrades to keep everything cool and working right. More info is needed on exactly what components you have on the cart......

If he done a speed motor upgrade and you've been putting around the house it will heat up that motor for sure. Going slow in a speed motor isn't good mine gets warm also. I'll be switching soon myself. You may look into a torque motor instead.
