Leaf springs vs shocks
I recently replaced both front a rear leaf springs on my TXT.
This gave an inch or 2 of lift on the cart. How would you know if the shocks need to be replaced and not sure what the shocks do differently than leaf springs. Thanks, Skip Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk |

Re: Leaf springs vs shocks
Shock "absorbers" dampen the harshness of the ride by absorbing some of the "shock" that is tranferred through the suspension and leaf springs. Springs are like a major ride adjustment and shocks are a fine tuning of the ride. In reality I've not seen a lot of adjustments possible in the cart applications but in performance applications ATV, MX, Etc many come with adjustable suspensions from the factory.

Would it be wasting money to replace the shocks on a txt ezgo?

Re: Leaf springs vs shocks
I found when I did the lift kit on my 2011, I did not have any rear shocks at all. Looks like there were never any there as the mounds were not marred in any way. With or without the lift ( no shocks) the cart would be just a bit unmanageable driving on the sanding roads where my cart is at Gulf Shores. After shocks installed, it tightened up the cart dramatically and eliminated all secondary bounce I was getting. All this said, I think I would have had the same reaction even if the rear shocks had lots of wear on them. You just need some dampening on the rear axle to keep it from hopping and jouncing around.

I usually agree with CTD, but I will say "it depends." Do your existing shocks, or even just one in the front and the back have any indication of leaking oil? Is the outside of the tube covered in black and the black thusly covered in dust? If so, then the shock has blown it's seal and you need new ones.

Re: Leaf springs vs shocks
I would assume checking shocks on a cart is the same as on a car. With a car, they used to say, bounce up and down on the bumper and then stop and see how quickly the bouncing dampens. If it keeps bouncing for a while, they are shot.
