Battery power meter
I will be installing a 48v battery power meter for a customer tomorrow so today I ran all the wiring and did everything but cut out the hole to pop it in. I was not sure if he wanted it on by key, or on all the time ( since it uses so little power).
My question is, I noticed if you just connect the + and - wires the meter will not illuminate. I took an alligator test lead and touched it to the keyswitch wire and it powered on. Does this meter rely on the keyswitch wire to work, or do I just need to tie the key terminal in with the + terminal to have it on all the time? (like a reducer when you don’t want to use the key wire) |

Battery power meter
I went back and looked at the wiring diagram after I wrote this post, and I'm rewriting it. The key switch has + power on the r-y wire and when it's turned on, the r-w wire goes live. Are you using the r-w for the + to the battery meter, and then running the - battery meter wire to the - on the battery pack? Where the charge plug - wire goes?

Re: Battery power meter
Should of been more specific. I’m adding it to a G22. I dont believe there is a red and yellow wire. Just red/white and red on the keyswitch. Red/white shows voltage when key is on. Red shows voltage all the time. But that’s not the question, the question is if this meter has a key terminal does it have to be used.
Or can it be combined with + terminal to power it constantly I’m not confused as to where the wires go, just if I HAVE to use the key switch terminal |

Re: Battery power meter
Oh haha. I did not know the battery meter had 3 wires. Ground, constant power, ignition power (from an automotive wiring point of view). In that case I would use all 3 wires.

Re: Battery power meter
yeah It has 3 terminals on back + - and key. I was just assuming the meter relies on that key wire for power in order to power it on. Because + and - connections alone don’t power it

Re: Battery power meter
I would say you need all three. Unless it works with - and key wires

Re: Battery power meter
Good point, I should be able to power with negative and key terminals. Otherwise I guess I have to use all three

Re: Battery power meter
It makes sense it might have a separate wire for power and for measuring battery capacity, if you do end up needing all three
