D&D motor installation trouble
I just bought a D&D motor for my G8E and while carefully installing the 3 bolts to attach the motor to the differential, one of them broke off in the new motor case. What do I do now???
And what size SHOULD the bolts be? Luke Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: D&D motor installation trouble
Need a little more info. WHY did the bolt twist off? Bolts on mine were regular 1/4" NC.

Re: D&D motor installation trouble
It twisted off as I was putting it in. I used the bolts that came with the original motor.

Re: D&D motor installation trouble
You will need an easy out. An easy out is left hand threaded broken bolt extractor. You just need one small enough and long enough to reach. You will drill a hole in the end of the bolt you carefully broke off and thread the easy out into it until it gets tight enough to start turning the broken bolt out.

Re: D&D motor installation trouble
It must have cross threaded and got awful tight to get to the point where it snapped? Scottyb's suggestion is bang on. Used easy-outs a lot back in my motorcycle building days...a must for the toolbox.

Re: D&D motor installation trouble
Pretty sure the original motor was a Hitachi, which uses metric bolts. I think the D&D uses SAE bolts. That could cause a little issue...

Re: D&D motor installation trouble
I think he said he was using the OEM bolts when he carefully sheared one.

Re: D&D motor installation trouble
cgtech is exactly right. The Hitachi Japanese motor must be metric. Now I have a broken bolt in the new D&D motor. I’ll try to find an ez out and then get some new bolts. What are the sizes?
What about large the bolt on the bottom? The new motor doesn’t have a place for it. Is the three smaller bolts enough to hold the motor tight? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: D&D motor installation trouble
3 small ones will be 1/4-20, but unsure of length. The majority of all golf cart motors of the last 30 years were attached with 3 bolts of 1/4" or M6 size, so I say 3 should suffice.

Re: D&D motor installation trouble
Great. I’ll try to extract the screw Monday and get some new bolts and be done with it. Thanks again!
