2012 G29 charger plug
Okay boys and girls, have a 2012 G29 that the charger plug is acting up. Cart was dying and then find out that the family was charging but it really wasn’t. Sprayed cleaner in the socket and cleaned the prongs. After much futzing I got it to start charging and stay charging. I’m thinking bad socket. Doesn’t look like it can be taken apart so do I bite the bullet and replace it or replace plug and socket with sb50s? Probably going to buy a dpi soon so may just do the latter. Suggestions?

Re: 2012 G29 charger plug
If you don't care about OEM appearance, or mixing chargers amongst carts, I have always thought the "crow foot" plug was so failure-proof, it had to be ran out of town. Crow foot plug seems to be the "40 year" solution. It will also screw right into the stock 48v yamaha/nabson socket location.

Re: 2012 G29 charger plug
Have 2 other 48 volt carts there and one is already using an sb50 with the rxv adapter. The other has a “built in” yellow and black Q charger that works but would rather have a floating DPI. Both have batteries nearing their lifetime and trying to extend that. Poor yami has C2 Trojan 875s in it that were doing well but I think this connection issue may kick them over the edge. Had 1 at 6 volts.
So new set of Crowns and probably a dpi in my future unless the stock yami charger will be okay with Crowns ... Small rectangular charger with the fan. I will look into the crowsfoot option as well because you are right. Don’t get much more surface area than that. |

Re: 2012 G29 charger plug
Nothing wrong with a SB50, I count them at the "better end". Only reason I say better end is it got knocked down for difficulty for some clientele to securely get it "clicked", causing burned terminals. But, I must add, it is the easiest to service, and repair is cheap. Go SB50 if ya already use it.

Re: 2012 G29 charger plug
Still not sure if the issue is the plug or the socket and bad intermittent connections are tough to chase. Thinking about taking a 17/22 barrel cleaning brush to the socket and see if that helps but will definitely take a backup method of a charger with me when I head back up.

Re: 2012 G29 charger plug
Update. Bought a sb50 to drive 3 pin plug, hooked up my dpi and plugged it in. Charger blinked about 10 seconds then started charging. Conclusion. I think my plug on the charger cord is bad. Spiced into the wire and found white black and green. Was going to use another sb50 and use my new pigtail but only 2 wires. Didn’t want to stop it mid charge so I will take the new pigtail apart in the morning and see if I can use it. Has all 3 prongs but not sure how it is wired inside.
