Charging one battery
I have a 48v '10 Precedent, 6 8v batteries. 875 Trojans batteries were new in March 19, 12 hrs after charge 5 batteries show 8.50v, #4 shows 8.35v, supplier said to charge the low battery. Good or bad idea?Have a 6/12v charger, just wondering what setting to use and for how long to get the battery back to full charge.

Re: Charging one battery
Is there any extra wiring connected to the low battery? Lights or something else that would draw power from that one and maybe the one next to it?
What is the water level in each battery? Low or high electrolyte will affect the voltage reading. |

Re: Charging one battery
my twisted logic would put that battery first or last and see what happens....i would juice it up a bit to match the others , but watch it carefully....
after doing what Fairtax suggested above.... |

Re: Charging one battery
No extra wires on any batteries .Water level is correct in all batteries, checked and topped off monthly.

Re: Charging one battery
After the pack is fully charged it would be OK to charge that low battery by itself in order to bring it up to 100% SOC.
If the other 5 batteries have more SOC when you charge the pack, the lower SOC battery will never get fully charged. That is assuming all batteries are in the same condition. |

Re: Charging one battery
If there is no access to an 8v charger, the next best option is to do an OBC reset by removing the pack negative cable for more than 10 minutes.
The OBC will then use a dV/dT algorithm that will continue to charge the pack as long as it notices an increase in SOC. You need to let that charge cycle finish by itself. |

Re: Charging one battery
After OBC reset the low battery didn't change in voltage, nor did any of the other batteries. After a round of golf the suspect battery was 5.82. It recharged to 8.37. Is it a bad cell or bad battery?

Re: Charging one battery
I assume You meant "After resetting the OBC followed by a full charge of the pack...." nothing changed.
You can test for a bad cell by using a hydrometer. |
