Jakes Front Disc Brakes
Im curious if anybody has deleted the rear drum brakes when installing a Jakes Front Disc Brake conversion. My though its in do so would eliminate any of the know issues with the rear brakes once the lift kit is installed. I understand you can rotate the rear drum plate or install a longer cable, just curious if any have removed the rear drums completely.

Re: Jakes Front Disc Brakes
I've been using my cart with Jake's brakes for about ten years now. I've replaced the front pads just once.
I don't know why you would want to disconnect the drums? If your post rear lift causes the cable to be to short, you can purchase longer cables. For me...I like the idea that I have two separate brake systems on the cart. One front and one back. Of course, I use my cart for hunting and there's been more than one occasion where I've ran over\got hung up on a rock or log. That could result in a broken cable or even a cut\broke\smashed hydraulic brake line. If that occurs I will at least have rear or front brakes left. FWIW |

Re: Jakes Front Disc Brakes
I understand and agree that having 2 different braking systems is ideal for an emergency situation but the stock cart only has 1. So basically I would be replacing the 1 original system with a better system, just on a different axle.
Im not 100% set on removing them, just curious to see if anybody has. It would just be one less thing to worry about that's all. Wayne |

Re: Jakes Front Disc Brakes
Yeah....I get it. I left on two as the hills and mountains here in SW Pa. are steep. The rear brakes alone would not stop the cart on a downhill wet, muddy ....or even not muddy terrain.
The Jakes disc changed all that. And if your driving on flat surfaces then you would be fine with the front alone.....I would think. |

Re: Jakes Front Disc Brakes
I believe the rear brake linkages keep the push rod for the jakes master cylinder aligned. Removing the rear brake assembly would create problems actuating the front brakes.
