Default Want To Confirm Controller Is Bad In '96 EZGO TXT Series

Hi Everyone, I was hoping some of you could help me out and confirm that my controller is bad on my '96 EZGO 36v TXT Series drive.

I've ran through all the diagnostic tests in the Technicians Manual that I got off the site here. Charged batteries before I started and my starting pack voltage was 38.2v. My solenoid clicks so I went to step 22 and tested the voltage between B- and Pin 4 (Red Wire). All was good and went through steps to 26 which told me to go to step 36. I have voltage (38.2v) between B+ and M- when the selector is in N and pedal not pressed, but when I test as step 36 describes with Key On, Selector in F, and pedal pressed I get nothing, 0 volts.

Just looking for conformation before I spend $300-$400 on new controller or if I missed something along the way. THANKS!

Update: Started the diagnostics all over again and when testing the solenoid I get full pack voltage on both large posts. I tested by putting negative lead on main battery - and positive lead testing each large post. With full pack voltage on controller side of solenoid it says it may be welded. I also tried a continuity test on the two large posts and I got numbers instead of a beeping sound.

Would a faulty solenoid cause the reading on the B+ and M- controller test be 0v?

Note the solenoid will read 36v on both big posts if the pre-charge resistor is in place. Remove the resistor and retest.

Does the solenoid click when you try to go?

Yes solenoid clicks, I'll go re-test solenoid with resistor off right now.

With the meter set on voltage. put the test leads on B+ and M-. When the solenoid clicks you should read full pack voltage and as the pedal is depressed the voltage should go near 0.
If not - verify the throttle signal. If good and power is going to the control.... replace the controller

Re-tested the solenoid, I have full pack voltage 38v on the battery side large post but only 8v on the controller side large post with the resistor off. This was done with key off and switch in N.

Tested B+ and M- and I have voltage when in N and key off. Soon as I place in F and turn key on I have 0v and still 0v with pedal depressed.

When you say verify throttle signal you mean test the pedal box microswitch?

With this cart you have to be in gear to test. Jack one wheel off the ground so the cart does not move.
