Default 2013 RXV temperature sensor

Temperature sensor that comes off of the positive 48v terminal should measure something? is the temp. sensor connected to the red or black wire or across the two (series or parallel) Can something be substituted for the sensor?

That should be the sensor telling the charger battery temps. No idea on substitutions.

If you are talking about the gray wire with a fat black end that connects to the positive post, it is a temperature sensor. 10k ohm +- with temperature.

Thank you, is this device needed to properly charge the batteries?

Yes, in as far as it is needed to make certain battery chargers work.

No, since there are chargers that don't need to know the battery temperature to charge the batteries.

Is the temperature sensor wired across (parallel) the the two wires inside the gray wire or in series with one of the wires?

The temperature sensor is a thermistor (thermally sensitive resistor) that is connected between the two wires in the gray cable, so it is in series with both of the wires inside the gray cable. It is a simple series loop from the PCB in the charger port to the thermistor and then back to the charger port.

The gray cable is not electrically connected to the battery pack via the ring terminal and can be attached to any of the terminals on the batteries in the pack, or left dangling in midair.

If your charger isn't working because the temperature sensor is bad, the thermistor can be substituted with a 10kΩ resistor, or a replacement kit can be obtained.

Thanks JohnnieB, will check resistance between the two wires and if bad will install a 10K ohm resistor.
Appreciate your assistance. Have a great day!!
