36v-12v converter
I recently installed a 36v-12v converter on my cart. It only powers my headlights/taillights, etc. No extras.
Do I need to be concerned about it being a parasitic draw when the cart is sitting? I’d hate to kill my batteries because of it. Thanks, Gary |

Re: 36v-12v converter
I'm no expert, but I'd guess no. Batteries are going to naturally discharge at a rate that I'm assuming is higher than any potential parasitic draw.

What type of reducer did you install? If it was a four wire then they are always on. How much parasitic draw it will have I am not sure.

Yes, it is a four wire. I will have to throw my multimeter on there and see what it’s drawing. Any idea on how much of a draw would be “ok” and how much I should be concerned about? I realize any draw is not ideal. |

36v-12v converter
For inquiring minds, I put an ammeter on it today and the converter is drawing .03A just sitting there with nothing turned on.
Turn on my LED headlights and it draws .5A. How quickly will the .03A run it down to a point it needs charged? At what point should I be recharging it when it’s not being used? I’m new to electric carts and really don’t want to ruin a battery pack. Thanks, Gary |

Re: 36v-12v converter
Generally speaking, if your electric cart is not in use, it needs to be on a charger. You do not want your pack getting below 36.3V.
Somebody much smarter than I will need to do the math. |

Re: 36v-12v converter
My owners manual says to not leave it on the charger for more than two days, I’m assuming they are referring to actively charging for more than two days.
My charger does turn off when the batteries are charged, but will it turn back on if they drop too low? It is an OEM charger. My cart is a 1987 DS. I’d love to eventually get an onboard charger that has the maintainer feature. |
