Default 1990 Gas Club Car-Damaged spark plug hole

When I went to replace the spark plug I discovered someone had previously damage the spark plug hole and inserted a heli coil. It was too damaged for me to put my new spark plug in so I pull it out. I bought a new threaded insert and will have to tap the hole out larger since it is a complete insert and not a coil.
Anything special to keep debris out of the engine? I was planning on using my shopvac when I was finished.

Bring the piston to TDC, valves closed. Get yourself a piece of nylon / plastic tube @ 1/4" ID and tape it securely to your vacuum nozzle to prevent leaks. Use the new pice to suck out the swarf. Spin the engine for a few seconds with the plug removed. Using grease on the tap and taking small cuts, reversing and wiping clean will also reduce the risk of crap in the bore.
Should be good to go

Chris.

I am assuming you rank the engine withthe plug removed. How do you know you are top dead center?

With the plug out you can stick the eraser end of a pencil in the sparkplug hole, top dead center is when the pencil moves to its highest point or most out of the hole.

A method I have used to do this is to connect the blower end of your shop vac to the exhaust tailpipe. Wear eye protection to do this! With the spark plug removed, turn the vac on And turn your engine by hand until you feel air blowing out of the spark plug hole. Now you can rethread your hole and all the cuttings will be blown out. Nothing will fall into the cylinder! I have done this many times on different types of engines. It is fast and easy!
