No JcX... Drive clutches on Club Cars have always been on the passenger side! (since 1985)
Club Car made Kawasaki change the rotation of the engine in 1997 to clockwise!

85 to 91 KF82 flathead - Counter Clockwise
92 to 96 FE290 - Counter Clockwise
96.5 to present FE290/350/400 - Clockwise

As long as it's stock, it depends on the year of your cart to really determine the rotation of the engine/trans-axle!

hope this helps!

Didn't know that. I was just assuming based of all the other golf carts. Thanks for the clarification Lock.

My clutch was on the passenger side so I should be good.

Well crap, is the rotation determined by looking at the flywheel or the clutch? I found the direction arrow on my flywheel and it appears to be clockwise. I'm confused.

The rotation is determined by the drive clutch! What year is your cart?

It's a 96, the flywheel arrow shows clockwise so the clutch will be counter correct?

Yep! it's Counter Clockwise!

Goofy thing about Club Cars in 96... They changed a bunch of stuff mid year,
(engine rotation, trans-axle, engine pan... etc. etc. etc..)

So when you need anything else for it, make sure you have your serial number for it...
it's crucial... in order for you to get the right parts!

Hello, new to the forum and not sure of all the mechanics to message and such. We bought a 96 club car with the fe290 and after about 5 miles.... it seems that something has turned loose in the motor. It will still run but it sounds like someone is beating a pot with a hammer as it runs. I assume it is either the balancer or something... also the first occurence of this came with some oil leakage so I assume the crank case is busted somewhere. I pulled the dip stick and the oil seemed real thin so I felt it in my fingers and it smells of gas so I think somehow oil migrated into the gas.... not sure how that can happen. I know some autos can do that. Any advice/help would be appreciated, I have pretty good mechanical abilities but no experience with these.

Thanks for any info or leads on a replacement engine or parts.

Mark
