Default wrong driven clutch?

I'm having some problems with my cart at low speed. When i start off the engine doesn't rev up it just chugs til it gets to about 15 mph then it takes off. If i go up a slight incline it slows waaaay done and hardly makes it up, if at all. I do have a lift and some larger tires on it but this problem was there before that. It's a 93 clubcar so i would imagine that's part of the problem. It's old and tired. Anyhow i was looking at the driven clutch and it looks like the style for a newer cart. By looking at the pictures in the buggies unlimited catalog. Is there a difference or not. Belt is new but very loose. It is the right size. Engine is pulled as far forward as possible. That's all i know. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

belt should be loose until you start moving then one clutch opens the other closes and belt gets tighter as you get to full rpm............put in maintence mode and run it and watch clutches see if belt is coming all the way to top of clutch..................................

Thanks for your reply, shadowman. I did what you said. Belt doesn't go but 3/4 up the drive clutch but i do have the power spring on the driven clutch. Does what it should when it's not under a load.

How is rotation determined by looking from the flywheel side or clutch side

The rotation is determined from the clutch side! (PTO side)

Now... there's something that concerns me...
You said that the engine is slid as far forward as it will go. (to remove excess slack from the belt)

That isn't right! most all Club Cars should have a distance of 9 1/2" center to center of the crankshaft, and trans shaft!
(CC actually has a clutch alignment tool for this, and I have one!)

I'm guessing that the drive belt is too tight, and it can't run fully up the drive clutch,
which, in turn, is not letting the engine rev high enough at start up, OR... to get you up the hill at a normal pace.

I'd suggest sliding the engine back to the 9 1/2" center to center first, and see if that works for you!

If the belt is supposed to ride up on the drive clutch to establish power why do they offer a power spring for the driven clutch that keeps the belt low on the drive clutch? I'm confused
