Re: Kayak rack. Anyone do one?
The issue is the roof supports being able to withstand the weight of the boat and the rack racking back and forth against them. You will need some type of sway bracketing. We have an old Medalist with a roof rack that has sway brackets to the cargo box on the back.

Re: Kayak rack. Anyone do one?
We prefer to just use some kind of little trailer. Made out of what ever we can find, put a longer tonge on it, a small box to pack your stuff in, what ever. Biggest reason for this way?? Because when we aren't using, our kayaks/canoes need someplace to live anyway. Why not on the trailer/s. Sitting there ready to hook up and go. Boxes are just big enough to hold folding seats, fishing stuff, cooler, trolling motor and battery. (Yes, all of our kayaks and canoes are powered). 8~)

Re: Kayak rack. Anyone do one?
I just strap mine onto the roof. The trip to my neighbor's pond is about 3/4 mile, so no big deal if it slides around a bit.
'84 Marathon - home made roof supports (3/4" galvanized conduit). Roof is a used EZ-GO I got from a guy on Craigslist. The weight of my kayak isn't a problem - < 30 lbs. |

Re: Kayak rack. Anyone do one?
Jd62, I got it on eBay as a combination Grab Bar / Hitch. I am sure the same seller had them separately too. I'm too new to attach a link, but the seller was golfcartking512.
Hope this helps. |
