Re: 1997 ezgo series with new batteries but no go
This is such a simple thing to determine why it is getting hot. I would guess the solenoid coil is getting voltage across it continuously. A few voltage checks would tell the story.

Re: 1997 ezgo series with new batteries but no go
Ok my bad didn't remove the resistor before the check. But now I did 37.1 with resistor removed key on or off but the solenoid don't get hot now

Re: 1997 ezgo series with new batteries but no go
This don't make sense. Is it possible the resistor is getting hot and the heat conducting to the solenoid? With voltmeter negative lead on negative battery take the positive lead and measure voltage on both of the big solenoid terminals with the resistor disconnected. Next reconnect the resistor and do the same. Note if the resistor gets hot. It should not get hot.

..... if the controller is powered up without the solenoid activated the resistor will get smoking hot trying to power the cart. so lets see if that is what is happening? What drive system is it and what controller is it? |

Re: 1997 ezgo series with new batteries but no go
Your battery charger is wired backwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Black wire from the charge receptacle should connect to the main Negative terminal and the White wire to the main Positive terminal. You have the White wire connect to the negative terminal and the Black wire connected to the Positive terminal. If you have charged the batteries with those two wires connected as show in the pictures, the polarities of your new batteries have been reversed and they are probably boat anchors now. I cannot tell if the battery pack is connected to the Controller and solenoid backwards or not, but that is also a possibility since those two high current cables don't appear to be crossed or rerouted for the batteries being installed in a non-standard configuration. Attached is the way EZGO installs the batteries. Granted, it doesn't matter electrically if all the "+" pole face the center of the pack, or all the "-" poles face the center of the pack, but installing the batteries in a non-standard physical layout makes it easy for someone to inadvertently connect the wires/cables in the wrong places. |
