Default 36v to 48v conversion recommendations

So my buddy just bought a 2008 RXV and BLOWS MY DOORS OFF. Honestly, I can't have him doing this to me again at the hunting camp.

My cart runs 14-15 on flat ground and drops to a measly 6-8 on hills (I know hills is a relative term). His cart flat out whoops my butt all around. He'll run 20-22 on flat ground and blows me away on hills.

So.......time to convert to 48!

I'm currently running 22" tires, but they are in need of replacing. I'll probably go with 23" seeing as though I'm doing the conversion.

What controller package do ya'll recommend? I'm sure Scotty with chime in soon too, as that's where I'm going to buy it from.

The cart is used mostly around flat neighborhoods, but does also get used at hunting camp with some minor hills (south Alabama...pretty flat here).

I want a solid 20-22mph outta her and would like to do it with the stock motor. I "may" upgrade the motor in the future, but don't want to factor that in right now.

Thoughts?

I will be running 8 6v batteries to do the conversion with 2 in the bag well.

So you plan on bigger tires and add more weight ..... ugh.
The stock motor can only do so much, your performance may be better with 6.8v batteries because they weigh about 150# less. That's equivalent to having a passenger in the cart full time. You should consider an aftermarket motor to reach your original goal... Shoot me an email on this.

at least a 500 amp controller with 400 amp solenoid... min. 4g wires, maybe even 2q
hd F/R if you have the styel at the knee, if its a rocker switch then you good there. try that for starters. inflate tires to full psi...

48 volts and an upgraded controller (and other current carrying cables, solenoid, and FNR) will likely make you happy. After that you can go to a high speed motor if the RXV is still blowing you away. If you had a lot of steep hills, a higher torque motor may work better with big tires.

I guess I can stay with the 22" tires. I just thought the higher voltage would handle the 23's without an issue. I see what you're saying though. I just liked the idea of the AH capacity of 8 6v's versus the 6 8v's for longer run times.

After your upgrades, you might be able to clock the speed and maybe borrow a buddies bigger tires. You'd only need to swap back tires.

As to 8 sic volt batteries, I did that for run time, and they should last longer, as their SOC would remain higher than 6 eight volt ones. I also figured max amps would be higher. Time will tell.

I'm averaging about 5 miles a day on my 8 6vs and at the end of the day I'm still close to a full charge, mainly all flat cruising

Seth, I got the C 74 pkg, 2 g cables, SOC meter, HD FNR, DPI charger, and D&D high toque motor from ScottyB. In the neighborhood I am getting 18 mph on flat ground and about 13-14 on pretty good rolling hills and I believe the cart will flip over before stalling on hills. I went from 36v to 6- 8v 48v battery pack. With about 12 PSI in 22'' tires I got 20 miles when trying to determine how far I could go on a charge. That was carrying 2 passengers, about 500lb total load and stopped with 49v SOC. On first work day at deer camp, with 22'' mud tires aired to 8 psi, I believe I ran about 10 miles, mud, hills, flats and still had about 49.4v. Was carrying about 400lbs, 1 passenger, filled 65 qt yeti, 2 saws, and gear. Had guys on tractors saying the cart seemed really fast. Cart pulled the largest hill at the camp like a champ. Scotty sells awesome stuff and gives really good customer service.
