Default Tow Run switch question

I have 2 club car DS's and both have tow/run switch. Doesn't matter what position it's in, they'll run. Ohm'd the switch out and they're functioning properly. Feel certain it's something I've done, maybe wiring digital voltmeter across keyswitch? I guess my question is, what exactly does the switch do? Hard to troubleshoot something when I don't really know it's purpose in life. Thanks!

If you have an MJZ type Solenoid, check if your solenoid big post lug is touching the small activation terminal on the solenoid.

Otherwise make sure no individual battery is being tapped for accessories.

Ok, I'll check solenoid.

Of my negative and positive wires coming from pack to monitor voltage with digital display, the negative is direct connect to meter. The positive comes in on bottom of keyswitch, then out of top of keyswitch to meter. That's why I was leaning there because I saw the green wire lands there.

Only running lights off of dc/dc converter utilizing the whole pack.

So I disconnected my positive wires going through key switch to digital voltmeter and problem corrected itself. I figured it was something stupid I was responsible for.

The keyswitch just breaks a positive so putting a voltmeter across it is like just plugging the voltmeter straight into a positive wire.

The positive side of the voltmeter can go to the switch (hot side if you want the voltmeter on all the time or cold side if you want the voltmeter to function only when the key is on). The negative side of the voltmeter can go to any convenient negative point.
