Default Club Car DS with Regen 1 options

New to golf carts and have a question. I recently just purchased a 1997 club car ds 48v. From what I’ve seen online, it looks to be a Regen 1 system. If I were to upgrade the controller or motor, what options do I have? I read something about IQ, do I need to change it to that before upgrading anything? I’m wanting to use it for hauling deer, stands and checking trail cams. Also, what kind of lift would you recommend for it and tires? It’s mostly flat ground around here.

Call David at a Revolution golf cars.
The big problem with upgrading the Regen 1 carts is there are no aftermarket controllers that plug directly into the wire harness that cart came with. There are adapters that can be used to convert that harness to another controller but for the price of the adapter you can replace the entire wire harness with an IQ harness. That will eliminate problems associated with old wiring and corrosion as well as allow you to run many different modern controllers.

David is the best guy to talk to about those since he deals with that kind of upgrade all the time. He can get you everything you need including wiring, controller, motor, wheels and lift kit.
Things to make sure of if you’re making an upgrade are that you have a properly functioning battery charger. And that you have Good Quality batteries. Pushing larger tires takes battery power and an old or mismatched set of batteries will quickly leave you pushing the cart home.
