Default 1982 gas ezgo overcharging

Ive searched and couldnt find the answer i was hopin for , anyway i have a 82 ezgo that i replaced the brushes in the started/generator and and blew out the housing with compressed air, it is overcharging to the tune of 19+ volts, i tried adjusting the regulator with no luck, replaced with a known good one and still no go..all terminals seem to be clean and tight, if i remove the small df wire from the generator and it still overcharges is it possible i need to take off the generator again and look for something inside of it for another problem, what about the small red d+ wire on the regulator? can i use a jumper to do any tests on these small wires before i take generator apart again? thanks

Did you have the problem before changing the brushes?

hum nope on the regulator, i ruled that out on original post.. UPDATE......found broken small red wire on d+..the wire looked good, it was broken in the insulation about 10 inches from the regulator, ezgo liked zip tyn the wires pretty tight and thats were it was, where it had been zip tyed, continuity test found it..thats for the help
