have you checked the battery voltage across all six batteries? It may be dropping out due to low voltage.

Sounds like you may have an intermittent MCOR switch.

i cleaned the points in the solenoid(contactor) and so far so good

Good, hope it stays that way... Keep in mind that the MCOR controls the solenoid operation. If it fails again, I'd look towards that direction.

It's a potentiometer (Rheostat) and micro-switch all enclosed in a single unit. The micro-switch is what provides power to the activation circuit on the solenoid which allows it to engage.
