I think the cart is designed to last for a 5 yr lease on a golf course....

Yeah that's for sure. Then we come along and build how they should be made.

Hey Scottyb, I want to eventually replace the controller, motor, etc. (with the list you have for me) so should I go ahead and put the 2 gauge cables on the cart with the new batteries or just wait until I do the rest of the upgrade?

That's the same reason manufacturers replaced screws with rivets! It's cost per unit to them, and over thousands of units produced, they save considerable money. They do not care how much of a pain it is for you to work on or how long your batteries may last!

They could have made it optional for a full pack converter for folks who would pay extra for it, though! :)
