yeah that was my point.......its gonna spend more time charging than anything and will go bad in a year.............i know they make a really sweet 12 volt battery thats as small as or smaller than a tractor battery........someone here just mounted one...............................

Look at the odyssey PC 925 line, I think you will be happy with it, cost is around $125, worth every penney.

So then the factory wiring harness for the light kit is only taking power from one battery and not the whole pack?

Correct. If it was the whole pack it would be 48v in your case without using a converter. This is why many use a converter for their accessories so it draws off the whole pack evenly.
