Question Keep 6-6v or go 3-12v?

I'm seeing some guys on here that have 4-12v batteries instead of the 6v cart batteries..I have 6 brand new 6v batteries in my 03 club car ds and I'm wondering what the advantages or disadvantages of have the 12v batteries over the 6v batteries.
