Re: Chatter after 20-30 min ride
Well I ordered Scottyb's digital meter and round trim kit, which looks like it's a thousand times better than the old analog gauge I currently have. After that, we have traded emails regarding my problem...
It looks like I have a Pot and a logisystems 480a controller. I tested the Pot tonight and I got 4.93K with pedal at rest and 76.5 with pedal fully depressed. It looks like I'm down to the controller and motor now... |

Just changed the motors over and still have the same problem...
So maybe it's my controller. Is there a way to make sure I don't have two bad motors? By the way, I also installed Scottyb's digital meter and it looks great. I'll have to up load pics. |

Well I tested the controller by checking the voltage as the tech guy at BU told me. I have 48 volts thru the B+ & B-, but the max I get at B+ & M- is 36 volts. The tech said I should get 48 volts, but the pack voltage drops down before it gets there. Also as the cart is about to stop, I only am getting 12 volts or so.
Also used a load tester to double check the batteries today and they all tested good. So it looks like the controller is bad. What brand and size controller should I look at? I have a BU speed/torque motor, 4ga wires and 25" tires. I believe my current controller is a 480 amp Logisystems. |

Well its been a little while, but I was able to get a battery supplier to let me use a set of new batteries to test my cart without having to buy them...
I loaded up new Deka's in the cart today and got basically the same meter readings, but the cart hasn't died on me yet. These batteries have a 165 20 amp hr rating and 85 min @ 75 amps. While climbing moderate hills in my yard, the total pack voltage drops down to 41 volts and then stays steady. While running it around my property, it seems to last quite a bit better than before, but why is the pack voltage dropping down so much under a load? |

Batteries can fool you with normal readings and even with load tests. Mine checked out fine, until I hooked the cart up to a discharge unit and had them discharged completely. At that point you can take a meter reading and find the bad battery. I found mine ( that tested normal when fully charged ) and replaced it. Ever since then the cart has been great!! Run times increased dramatically.

Re: Chatter after 20-30 min ride
It sounds like the speed controller is working ... new batteries improved performance. You could be dropping down to a low voltage reading for a couple of reasons.
1. new batteries are not at 100% capacity 2. 165ah is a minimal size 8v 3. your motor may be drawing more than it should due to worn brushes. 4. you may have old wiring with lots of resistance? Just a few things to look at. |

Well it looks like I may have found the problem...
I'm gonna switch it out with a good one and we'll see if that helps. |
