looking to buy need advice

I currently have a 96 CC Gasser limo and I am looking at buying a late 90's electric CC limo. Problem is I have never owned an electric golf cart and don't know what to look for. oh yeah I almost forgot to mention there is no batteries for it and the charger is in pieces owner attempted to repair but never bought the "cheap little part" as he says. so its a used electric CC limo no batteries and a pile of part said to be a charger, What tell tale signs should I look for in the hollow carcass?

Test the motor. A simple 12v car battery can do that. Is it 36v or 48v? You would have to look at the motor since there are no batteries to look at. It should have a sticker on it. Or read the charger see if it says 36 or 48. See if it has a digital controller or if it is coils. Controllers go bad quite often. I am new to carts but have found this out FAST. lol The four most major expenses are the batteries, motor, controller if it has one and, body/frame. How does the body look? is the frame aluminum or steel? if steel is it rusted? Hope this helps.

owners says its 48v, body is great, frame is aluminum. So if I understand you right, I can just run jumper cables from my gas cart to the electric cart it should move if everything else is good?

I don't know which motor terminal (A1, A2, S1,S2) gets positive or negative from the 12 volt battery. I do know I would label and remove the cables from the motor before doing the 12 volt test. This would eliminate voltage going to the Controller and possible damage to same. I believe this test just shows that the motor is functioning.

TEST RUN A MOTOR

To test run a series motor

Remove all cables from the motor; connect a jumper from A1 to S1. Connect 12 to 24 volts, positive @ A2 and negative @ S2. Swap S1 and S2 to change rotation direction.

To test run a Sep-Ex (regen) motor

Remove all cables from the motor; connect a jumper from A1 to F1 and a jumper from A2 to F2. Connect 12 to 24 volts, positive @ A1/F1 and negative @ A2/F2. Swap F1 and F2 to change rotation direction.

NOTE: some Sep-Ex motors are labeled S1 & S2 in place of F1 & F2

CAUTION:

Allowing a motor to spin @ high RPM can cause catastrophic failure!
