Re: ezgo txt wire getting hot
Could also be the cable is loose on that stud. You may want to take it off to see if it can be salvaged. The FNR carries a LOT of amps, and needs solid connections on all four studs. If the plastic has started melting, it may be time to call JohnnyB of http://www.cartsunlimited.net/

My wire melted, the plastic on the f&r switch melted, and it no longer was making a contact.I called Scotty B and got the reversing contactor and love it.No heat anymore!

And yes the reversing contactors are FUN! The official 99 TXT test cart is easier to drive than my 08 PDS. Never though I would say that, but there is no leaning up out of the seat to reach the far side of the dash On the subject at hand - I have seen stock F&Rs burn up on stock carts .... on hilly terrain or under non golf course use. It could just be the worn contacts arcing and making the cable hot... what ever the reason, once these F&Rs get hot enough to melt cagble insulation irreversible damage is done to the housing which holds the 4 main contact lugs . The hot one sinks in the plastic housing and is no longer making good contact = this just makes more arcing and heat. |

Since you're likely to upgrade - you are on Buggies Gone Wild - decide whether you'll ever upgrade to 48 volts one day. Go here for info: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html A heavy duty FNR will work on 36, 42, 48, 72, volts. It only cares about amps. I may be wrong but aren't the reversing contactors rated for a specific voltage? EDIT: The coils, not the contacts. |

Re: ezgo txt wire getting hot
Yes the coils are rated for specific voltage.... there are multiple voltage units which we considered using but they are momentary types, a rating which designates the switch be turned off every so many hours..... some carts are never turned off. I think I may have a way around this but some testing is needed.

Re: ezgo txt wire getting hot
Does in involve a burden resistor?

Re: ezgo txt wire getting hot
I'd think the coil only pulls milliamps, so using a 36 volt coil on 42 or 48 volts would simply need a small resistor in line, to "burn off" the extra 6 or 12 volts.
