Default 220 Forum Pages...Batteries/Chargers and counting

As a Noob, still working daily, with limited time off I have perused previous threads, amounting to in excess of 220 forum pages, and probably another 50relating to batteries/chargers on this forum...as this is my current issue. I am getting an education and will continue as time permits. When it comes to electrical issues, my skillset expires after changing the light bulb.

I continue to be amazed that certain people on this forum such as JohhieB, ScottyB, Sir Nuke...and others continue to participate, actively, in answering questions and offering advice to others...many times, based on my review of threads, answering the same questions over and over as time goes by and new people join and have the same questions. Great active participation on the part of these individuals.

I guess most of us, when having a problem, want an answer now! I know that is me; it does take a substantial amount of time, even with an active 'search' to zero in on one's issues. But post on this forum...even if asked a 100 times before, and...Wham...they are here.

Thank you to you active, participating BGW warriors. IMHO you make this forum what it is.

In the meantime...when I look at my battery plates they appear to be 'dressed' in an Angora Fuzzy Sweater. Are they telling me something?

They are crying to be bathed in soda water unless they are just to cold.

The lead (-) and lead dioxide (+) plates are made of "spongy" lead to maximize their active surface area and may be separated by porous insulators, but I've never heard of a battery manufacturer using Angora wool.

Thatsme? may have been referring to the baking soda solution that is commonly used to neutralize battery tops rather than carbonated water, but never let either of them get inside your batteries, or it will destroy them.

The fuzzy look may be, or may not be, normal. I'd give the battery manufacturer a yell and ask to find out for sure.

Are the batteries behaving normally?

Have they appeared that way from the beginning? I recently purchased a set from the local Costco and they (all) do have something fluffy separating the plates that goes beyond the actual plate surface, like they neglected to trim the overhang off. They (all 6 6V) have it so I am not concerned YET!

Dennis makes a good point. Do the plates in all of the cells look the same?

IF so, it is probably normal.

Sorry I missed the word battery platesin Desert Bills comments. I was thinking of batteries with a lot of dirt and puffy corrosion on top.
