Default G16 rear differential install questions

I have a 99 G16. So last week I broke my input shaft:

I took a look at the stickies thread for broken I put shaft but still can’t figure out replacing. I opened the differential and replaced it with a new Dana kit from plowman’s. However I can’t get this to slide back in. I think it has to do with the transmission fork on the bottom left of the last photo. Whether I put the cart and forward reverse or neutral doesn’t seem to matter. Any advice? I’m looking at the service manual but it doesn’t seem to have a guide.

I’ve also tried rebuilding it in the other piece of the differential but each time that fork from the forward / reverse gets in the way.
