Default Engine troubles

I recently finished a full custom build of a 36v EZGO and realized electric is not for me. So I purchased a gas powered Club Car.

The cart is in good shape and has a lot of potential but I did purchase it knowing there was a issue with the engine.

It will start fine and drive fine for a little then she'll start to bog down and throw huge clouds of smoke.

Checking the dipstick reveled what seems to be gas in the oil. My guess would be a bad head gasket?

Two questions:
1) Am I correct in assuming the head gasket?
2) How do I determine which engine is in my cart?

Nice cart, and welcome to BGW tgaston!

If there's fuel in the oil, most likely it's a sticky carburetor float!

As for the engine, most likely it's an FE 290,
there should be a bar code tag on the fan shroud that will tell you!

Thank you. I'll take the carb apart and see what I find. It has a fuel & oil mixture that comes out of the carb when it acts up.

Subscribed. That steering wheel makes me think it may be a KF82 cart.

Tires size?

Honestly I don't know much about it. I bought it right and it seams like a good platform for a custom cart. The aluminum frame looks strong. I don't know what lift is on it now but it just has blocks. I know the tires are 23". I didn't have a chance to locate the engine code as lockman suggested.

I recently finished another cart that I'm selling to make room for this. I kinda promised the wife that I would get rid of one before starting this one :)

What's the serial number of the cart itself? It will be tucked up under the glove box at the top of the floorboard.

I just looked this up and see that it's a '91. Can you tell which motor it has from the serial #? I could not find the bar code tag on the fan shroud.

Yep if it's a stock '91 then it has the KF82 341cc Kawasaki motor. Same motor I got in mine. They put these motors in gas Club Cars from 1984-1991. It's an 8hp flathead motor. I like mine, it has plenty of power for me. The head gasket is pretty easy to replace if that's your issue.

Does your motor look like this when you pop the seat up? This is what a Kawasaki KF82/341cc motor looks like.
