The old style round coil like you have in your post will do the job.

I know this thread is a year and a half old, but my coil is bad on my 92 4 cycle Marathon. Can anybody tell me what kind of coil will work, or should I just spend 100 for a new one? I looked through this thread, but the pictures of the ones you guys were talking about are gone. Thanks for the input.

Yeah, its bad. I was having trouble last year and found that the coil was arcing off the mounting bracket. I did some insulating, and now its doing it again. I guess its grounding out through the bracket, because I touched the bracket and it zapped me. I took the coil off the bracket, so it isn't touching anything metal, and it runs like a champion. I also ohmed it out and its out of range.
