Default western 400 rewired worked for a minute then stopped

Got a western 400 on a trade. Rewired it had it running for a few minutes then died. The batteries are now brand new solenoid is brand new and still wont go. It has a curtis 1204-009 controller and a pb 6 potentiometer. Motor spins when 12v charger hooked up so its good. Potentiometer ohms up to 1k then kicks out and not really sure how to test the controller. I believe the potentiometer should go from 0-5k but it doesn't. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Default golf cart stopped working

Got a golf cart on a trade rewired it. Ran for about a minute and died. Replaced batteries and solenoid. Did motor test its good. It has a curtis 1204-009 controller not sure if I tested it correctly. The potentiometer is a pb-6 which I believe is a 0-5k . It reads to about 1k and drops out to 0. Could this be my issue?
