Default newbie question, what is it?

Hey all

Pretty new to carting, but already addicted. I'm working on my first Club Car. It's a 2005 DS I believe. I have 2 questions.

Is there a 12v power source on this cart? It has lights the look factory.

What is the epoxy filled electrical device inside the frame rail behind the batteries on the drivers side?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, and the block is a 16-12 volt reducer. It will kill the two batteries about two years before the rest go bad.

The device you see is a factory reducer. They are no longer recommended for use.

Hard to say without tracing the wires on your cart how the lights are wired.

Does the device you describe appear to be hooked to anything?

(Sorry Mrgolf you posted while I was typing. LOL)

I looked for the light wiring. I didn't look very hard. I spent the bulk of the day getting a front spring hanger bolt out. I'll investigate more tomorrow.

The reducer? has wires in the front going to a battery + and what I think is a common ground buss bar. On the back are wires that go to the solenoid and what I assume is the controller.

OK. I can order a Reducer. What about disconnecting it?

I have never used one but the neg wire is probably going to B- on the controller and the pos to a second battery (or 3rd some of these were 16-12 and some were 24-12).

Just unhook starting at the battery and go from there until it is all gone. Then get a 48-12 reducer. I would install a fuse panel and run the lights and any other accessories you may add from that.

Before you start messing with any of it I would unhook the battery pack to prevent any accidental shorting of anything.

Thanks. That sounds like a plan. I appreciate all the quick responses. I wanted to be sure what I was dealing with before ordering a new Reducer.
