Default Ezgo troubleshooting

I’ve been reading the ezgo troubleshooting from golf carts unlimited trying to systematically test the electrical components of a used golf cart I just bought. Problem: I think I fried the alltrax dcx400 controller.
Question1: can I still test the solenoid, micro switches, and motor if the controller is not operable?
Question 2: reading all manuals say to switch T/R to tow and remove neg battery cable before removing the cover, then reattach the negative cable. Got it…however should I keep the cover switched to tow, or do I switch it back to run?

Thanks

yes you can test the m/s, on off and f n r switches using an ohm meter set for volts, hook the positive lead to the pack main positive and start at the ignition switch, then move to the m/s under the floor mat in the foot pedal, then move to the m/s switches on the f n r if it has them. if it just has a rocker switch set meter to ohms and the middle terminal should be the hot and the side terminals will be f and r respectively.
yes turn switch to tow always before servicing anything with the battery cables, after reconnecting the cables with the cover off turn back to run position so you can continue with your testing, if it is a series motor you can do an in cart motor test. google that or someone may chime in , if it is a shunt motor i don't know how to test that but maybe someone will educate us on that

Awesome, thanks…think I am finally figuring out some of this electrical mumbo-jumbo…

Any advice on how to bench test my solenoid…been reading a lot with various answers. From what I can tell, if I connect a battery to the small posts it should open the solenoid and I should get a “click” and continuity across the large posts??? How many volts does it take to open the solenoid? 36v txt pds with stock 36v solenoid.

Thanks for any help
