2015 RXV back up buzzer

The buzzer is extremely load and annoying so I wrapped it in tape to tone it down. I've read that you can't just snip the wires, or the controller won't let you drive. Is this true?
I have been wanting to add an LED backup light. Could I connect it to the horn wire to get a light that comes on while backing and fool the controller that something is still connected?

Mike it would be best if you didn't cut or splice into the RXV wiring. To many end up buying a new controller because of it. If you have a DC to DC converter why don't you hook up to that. You can set it up to run off of a switch.
