Default '78 ezgo motor removal

Greetings everybody, just got an old cart to fix up. The electric motor appears to need attention. I can't seem to find the bolts to remove it from the differential housing. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

The pulley end endcap stays attached to the differential. Two bolts hold the endcap on the motor. Undo those two bolt and the motor can be pulled.

Here's a couple of manuals that may help. (They are for slightly later model years, but EZGOs don't change much.)

Hey Johnnie B,

thanks for the update. with a little persuasion, the motor inched off the frame. the inside looked like water had leaked in and corroded much of the interior, hence the sparking when testing. will try and repair. thanks again for your assistance.

kindest regards,

The 3-wheel Marathon is model# X-440 and the 4-wheel version is x-444, so they both are covered in the same manuals. The drive system is the same in both versions.

The differences between the two is all forward of the seat.

I was also trying to get the motor out of an 82 EZGo, so I really appreciate the manuals. I want to convert mine over to a small diesel engine.

You may want to start a new thread, this one is over 2 years old and for what I think is a different cart.

If you are going to use the same differential as the electric cart, I am curious how are you going to get it to go in reverse? I know some diesel engines will run backwards like the 2 stroke EZGO's did.
