Default Rear Differential Oil

Which type of oil is designed to be used in the rear differential?

Ezgo recommends 30wt oil for the Dana rear end in your cart. You can use an equivalent synthetic oil too.

My owners manual (2000 TXT) says SAE 30. Some on here are using synthetic.

Yep. EZGO hasn't changed the rears.

This is easy to remember for both gas and electric differential oil requirements;
Of the 3 major makers, EZGO, Club Car, & Yamaha, only CC gas carts use 80-90 gear oil. All the rest use 30wt motor oil in the differential.

Unless you have an EZGO electric with limited-slip differential. Then it's 25oz Mobilube HD85W140 and 2oz of friction modifier.

So how do you know if you have a limited-slip differential?

Geez, Short of going out in the mud and seeing if you can make the drivers side rear wheel sling mud all over your back, you can pull it apart and see if it's spring loaded. OR you can wait for awhile and Scottyb will post you the procedure.

Well if I jacked it up till one wheel was off the ground and gave it just a little peddle that should tell right. or what if I get both off the ground and spin one by hand to see if the other turns in the same direction or the opposite. That is how a car works with a limited slip and spider gears. I just figured there would be a tag or number someplace on a stock cart that would identify it.
