Default G1 Governor Removal and ways to speed up?

Hey there, I finally got my gas G1 going and would love to know how to make it go faster, Governor adjustment/removal, clutch spring? Not sure how fast it is but it's rather slow, and it feels like I have to keep putting my foot further on the throttle like it's being lifted back off or something, could be gov related.

Any help would be great!!!!

Gland you finally got it running!

Search button...you'll find anything you want to read.

Stickies....at the top of each section are lots of searches already done.

With the governor the G1 will usually go 12-15 mph top end. With the governor screw all the way in, maybe 19mph. If you disconnect the governor and run the throttle cable direct you can get up to 30 mph. Any more than that and you'll need a bigger carb.

My G1 with some mods went 37 mph without any trouble, prob would have gone over 40 if I wanted to jet the carb more. There's one guy here who claimed 42 mph with his.

I hooked up the throttle direct to the carb and still doesn't seem any faster, is there any clutch or belt mods that can be done?

Make shure the exhaust valve is opening all the way at wide open throttle.

Are your clutches in good operating condition? Newer belt?

What's your compression?

good morning I am a G1 owner that is like some looking for more speed its there a part number to a carb that is recommended … also there are some pics of the relocation direct to carb that I cant see for some reason if someone could send to me that would be very appreciated. I removed the 10mm nut but only gained 1 mph im at 18 mph tops now with stock tires. Also if I move to a K&N will I need to re-jet.. thanks again

I by-passed the gov on my 82 G1, It had the ball joint type ends on the carb linkage rather than a hole. Here's a thread I posted on it with a few pics...

BACK FROM THE DEAD LOL

Do a search, you'll find lots on the governor bypass. You should get roughly 20 mph on stock tires by doing this. With 20" tires maybe 22-25mph.

On mine, I just bypassed the axle governor and ran the cable from the pedal to the carb directly. It took a bit of modifying, but wasn't difficult.

Whatever you do, don't modify the air intake box. It'll throw the air fuel mix off and it'll run leaner and you'll lose speed.
