Default EZ GO TXT full speed reverse and 1/4 speed forward

I had an issue tonight with my cart. I was shifting from reverse to forward and the level was difficult to move. I muscled it into forward and I'm only getting maybe 1/4 forward speed, but it is full speed in reverse. Did I possible bend something in the F/R switch?

It is a HD switch that is less than a year old and I have never had this problem before. Any thoughts on what I should check? Thanks in advance!

this may sound silly, but the first question I have is:

before this happened, was reverse half speed, and forward full speed?

Check the linkage is not coming apart. The switch should not become hard to shift unless damage to the linkage or the contacts have melted intot he housing. Excessive heat damage is usually detected by visual inspection. The color will be slightly different and in extreme cases the stud may be leaned over like the one shown.

Hey Nuke. I should have mentioned that it has not happened before.

Scotty, thank you for the picture. The switch looks fine. Everything was tight. I'll check the linkage. It didn't give any notice just shifted hard and then ran at half speed. I might have messed up the linkage by forcing it. I'll post my findings.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Just took a look and I may have bent the linkage. If I turned the handle all the way forward I would run at about 1/4 speed, but if I moved it back towards neutral just a bit it would go full speed. However, if I move it all the way in reverse it is a 100% right away. I actually spun the tires a bit on backwards acceleration. Thanks for the help guys!

The forward slow speed could be caused by a partial connection due to misalignment of the rotary contacts like when shifted beyond the contact to where only partial contact was made allowing for only partial current to pass.
But - going full speed at the slightest movement of the pedal in reverse is a different problem all together ??? (the F&R cannot normally cause this)

What work has been done on the cart prior to the problems occurring ?

Thank you for the reply Scotty. I got back on the cart and the reverse isn't that sensitive. I actually have to push the accelerator down about half way to get it achieve 100% power.

I feel like it is over rotating and missing contacts. If the cart is in neutral the distance of rotation is greater in reverse than in forward. Is there an adjustment that can be made to realign the neutral position of the lever in relation to the switch? Thanks in advance!

No There is something broken, bent, unscrewed with the F&R rotating cam, the floor bracket or mounting, or the linkage. Time to get to work and figure it out.
