txt tire is rubbing brake cable with marathon wheels
The TXT is at stock height. I put wheels from the back of my '87 Marathon onto the back of the TXT because they had better tires (carlisle turf savers 18x9.5x8 ). As far as I know, the wheels are stock 8" steelies, and the offset on both old and new looks to be centered.
As you can see from the picture, the brake cable is rubbing the tire with the carlisles/marathon wheels. Can the cable mount or bracket be adjusted to give me some clearance? Are the older wheels different somehow, or is the awesome fatness of these mower tires is just too much? |

I'm gonna chalk it up the fatness of the tires. The wheels are identical in dimension...just 20 years older.

Well, yes the extra width of the tires on what should be pretty much identical rims, would close the distance from the inside facing surface of the tire sidewall I don't know if you can tie back the cable (Zip tie or something similar) enough to clear that. From your picture it seems the bracket under your leaf spring there may not allow much give in the cable housing.

Re: txt tire is rubbing brake cable with marathon wheels
It's a little frustrating because most of what I can find in 18" tires for off-road use are either 7" wide or 9.5" wide. I dont know if this particular tire is extra fat or if my options are going to be limited to 7" wide ATV fronts if I stick with 18" diameter.
If that bracket could offset or even bend just a wee bit, then it'd be fine. It needs about 1/8" |

Well you could try loosening up the rear axle u-bolts and see if you can twist that bracket just a little. If you do, I suggest doing both sides close to as even as you can - so your brakes pull evenly.

Re: txt tire is rubbing brake cable with marathon wheels
Just looked at it, and the bracket is attached to the hub. It's 1/4" thick and a little too small to get bending leverage on. Hopefully I can find some decent trail tires in 18x8.5x8.
