Proper tire PSI
Just put on new EFX Fusion ST tires 23 x 9.5R x 12 on my lifted Precedent. Question is about tire inflation. Sidewall states max inflation is 30 psi. Seems high as my prior Turf Tech II was only 20. I use mainly on pavement and cart paths. Any ideas on proper inflation?

Re: Proper tire PSI
I always felt max is a limit, if you go softer you will get a softer ride, little safer while driving because of better traction. You have to judge your load as to not over or under inflate and cause steering or wear issues. I've seen some go much less the 20 psi, I think somewhere in the 15/25psi range would be ok for a reasonable load. Take this as an opinion only based off my experience.

Re: Proper tire PSI
The max pressure stated on the tire is for the max load, which you are probably a good bit under. I would experiment with 15-25 and see what gets the best ride without having a bulge at the bottom of the tire.

Re: Proper tire PSI
I inflate to max. Then chalk or talc a stripe across the tread of the tire. Roll the cart to transfer a mark to the garage floor. Compare mark and tread width. Decrease pressure 2#'s. Compare again. Repeat until the transfer mark and tread width are equal, resulting in best pressure for tire wear. Adjust up or down for ride, load or handling.

Tip: Use a contrasting colour to the colour of the floor or it can be hard to see (e.g. don't use white chalk and a natural coloured concrete floor). |
