Re: symptoms of crossed cables at motor?
Reversing either the Field wires or the Armature wires only causes the motor to change directions, no other undesirable symptoms.
I would start with the speed sensor, but I have never heard of that Kinetek Controller being used by members in this site. I would suggest You download their software, make the custom USB cable and get the diagnostic information: http://kinetekcontrols.com/software/index.php |

I'm curious to know if the controller thinks forward is reverse when the current is reversed at the motor, putting the control in a reduced reverse mode while in forward.

Re: symptoms of crossed cables at motor?
Shouldn't matter with DC motors, that's all relative, even with controllers that handle both A1 and A2 of the motor. The speed sensor does not provide information on direction. Now with AC systems yes, most defiantly.
Now I have run into a situation where someone had disconnected their reverse buzzer then later replaced the FNR switch but had crossed the wires there, thinking the terminal directly behind the F was forward. Later installed a motor and saw the direction was wrong, so switch the fields and the result was half speed "Forward" and full speed "Reverse". |

Re: symptoms of crossed cables at motor?
Does the motor have a thermal sensor / thermostat? Probably an extra 1 or 2 small wires coming from the back end.
I messed with a fairplay once that someone had changed motors but the new one didn't have this feature so the vehicle went half speed. |

Re: symptoms of crossed cables at motor?
Have you switched your A terminals and looked to see if you get full speed forward?
