Default How to test batteries

Hello all. I have a 2005 CC precedent with 08 trojan batteries (4 12volt) and often read where people are asked to test their batteries with a voltage meter. I have zero knowledge of electrical components and would like to know how to do this. I did a search on how to do this but can't seem to find instructions. I know others have asked this and it is probably buried inside other threads but thought I would ask and titel the thread in case others like me need the help. I do have access to what I think is a voltage meter, small box with several switches and settings and has the pos and neg wires that come to a point for testing auto wires etc? Showing my knowledge now arent I? Anyway if anyone can break down the steps on how to do it with 4 12 volt batteries I would greatly appreciate it. Or if there is a link just post that please.
